Services & Programs

Counseling services:

We offer counseling services for adults, teens, and children. Individual and conjoint therapy can be helpful at any age. Very often people will come to Agape with problems between themselves and others. When a person discovers that problem-solving and finding solutions must begin with the individual, then one-on-one therapy becomes a key for progress. Effective therapy first involves developing a quality-counseling relationship with the therapist. This provides a bridge for healing, learning, and improved coping skills for many of life’s concerns and issues. In this way counseling at Agape can provide the missing ingredients for a more satisfying and fulfilling life.

"Growing old gracefully is not an easy thing to do. I lost my wife 14 months ago, and I miss her so much! Having a counselor to talk with has made a big difference in my life. I’m so glad I met the people at Agape family Counseling. They have been true friends and helpers in a time of need. I thank God for Agape!"

Marital Counseling:

Troubled marriages have become a national epidemic in our country with some 50% of all marital relationships ending in divorce. Fortunately, today many couples are recognizing the seriousness of this problem and are seeking third party help from various sources, including marital counseling with professional therapists. Agape can help resolve marital conflicts by providing interpersonal, communicational, and management skills to handle issues that today’s modern marriages are facing.

We at Agape seek to assist couples in recognizing their individual and relational needs during the counseling process. We provide each partner with both individual and conjoint therapy. Initial assessments are made for each party and for the relationship, using a variety of tools to determine specific difficulties and deficits needing attention. Included among others are such topics as: basic mental health and fulfillment needs, conflict resolution and communication skills, and division of labor issues. Additional areas of concern may involve boundary setting for identity needs, establishing priorities including spiritual and growth needs, identifying and implementing mutual activities with shared points of interest, and sharing a mutual plan with goals for the marriage.

At Agape Family Counseling marriage is a spiritual commitment made between a man and a woman before God. Couples who come to us may be assured that we will make a committed effort to building up, revitalizing and restoring their marriages. While Agape can only assist in this process, when we combine our efforts with that of the couple, so often, the outcomes are gratifying and rewarding. We love to see couples restore and regain that original love that they shared when they were first married.

It is best when both partners come together initially. However, either of the parties may come separately, and an invitation will be made for the remaining partner to come in a following session. We can assist you, if needed, in getting both partners to join in this “life-changing” process of marital counseling.

“I came to you in my wheel chair, having been diagnosed with M.S. My life and marriage had gotten so bleak and I was feeling down, most of the time. My husband Donny, who also came to the sessions, found himself helpless to do anything to lift my spirits. You took us both in, and what a difference it has already made. My spirits have risen – you have helped us feel alive again! You have also reminded us of our many blessings, both in this present world and in the world to come. Donny and I are feeling good about being part of this helping program. We are talking together a lot better now, and I, for one, have decided there is something good on the inside of me after all. Thanks again for being there."

Vocational Counseling and Assessment Program:

It is so important for people to find satisfaction in their work and vocation. This type of guidance is essential for both young people who are planning for their career path and for those in mid-career who may need to redirect themselves. Interest patterns have been shown to be one of the best indicators of job satisfaction. In our vocational guidance program at Agape, we evaluate conflicts and disturbances in the work setting, seeking to provide ways and means of reducing stressors and increasing job satisfaction. We also provide assessment testing tools which can correlate one's top interest areas with corresponding career pathways. This can be helpful information for anyone seeking job fulfillment and assists one in developing a vocational plan in line with workable attainable goals. Vocational guidance is offered as a stand-alone feature, or may be included as an option for individualized counseling programs.

Christian 12-Step Program:

In this program, we focus on those who need extra support in their existing 12-step regimen. The Agape program adds a dimension of Biblical content, prayer support, and individual accountability, combined with Christian counseling. These elements are not easily found in secularized 12-step programs. While the Christian 12-step is not intended as a substitute for other 12-step programs, some people have used our resource as an alternative program. The Christian 12-step program is structured as a specialized form of individual therapy and is not offered in a group therapy format.

Anger Management Therapy:

This program involves varying degrees of individual counseling combined with a homework curriculum and assignments to help one better understand the nature and construct of the anger build up. The Agape program provides exercises to assist in "working out" and dealing with one’s distinctive anger build up, and redirecting these emotions into more positive and constructive channels. Proper documentation is provided at the completion of the program.

Short Term Disability Leave Program :

seattle family counselingSome employers are now offering "short-term disability leave" in conjunction with Federal FMLA guidelines. Agape has handled many such cases involving work-related stress relief. Inquires for these programs should be made through the employer’s Human Resource (HR) Department.

Agape provides a structured outpatient plan for those qualified. This is an intensive program with multi-weekly sessions featuring a variety of therapeutic modalities including cognitive emotive therapy, and relaxation therapy combined with systematic desensitization. An initial mental health assessment is made for developing a treatment program specific to the client’s needs. Additionally, a psychiatric evaluation is made for appropriate medical and medication needs. In the past two years, the “stress relief disability leave” has become one of our more sought-after programs and has shown positive results.
